ROOTS is a documentary film that follows Sunflower Farm in Longmont, Colorado, as they face their first harvest season after becoming a production farm. Over seven months, I visited Sunflower Farm and created personal relationships with many of the farm staff. This project not only enlightened me to the destruction of traditional agricultural practices but also inspired me to think globally and act locally. The film emphasizes the need for a shift in our food consumption habits that lowers total meat consumption and implements sustainable land use practices. It also highlights that the reality of a regenerative farming future requires a comprehensive understanding of the social and physical barriers that actively prevent sustainability and an understanding of what steps must be taken to implement change. This opportunity was incredibly informative and gave me more confidence and experience with the entire documentary process.
